A large proportion of electricity generated in the UK is based on combustion of fossil fuels – gas, oil and coal.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a damaging by-product. Using gas in the home also creates CO2. Dual fuel customers make a double contribution; firstly through the hydro-electricity component and, secondly because we plant trees on their behalf to help offset the effect of their use of gas at home.
Our tree planting programme is based on the generally accepted premise that healthy growing trees, professionally managed in their natural habitat, absorb CO2.
Our tree planting estimates are based on average household CO2 emissions and the number of growing trees, according to forest locations, required to absorb the aggregate amount created by customers.
